Same story. Indian call centre rang on 25 Aug 2018. Gave this number to 'verify' that they were from Telstra. Rang the real Telstra and they said they had not called.

I have had numerous calls from this fake Telstra. We don't even have an internet account with them. I asked them for the no but i didn't ring them back. We have a son in IT & he said it was a scam. The Indian voice had to ask someone for their no. He didn't even know their fake no! He asked to have access to our computer. I don't think so!

Caller: Unsolicited - - " David "

Called at least 8 times to speak to me over the last week.
Supposedly from Telstra to discuss my WiFi and internet access problems. Told him I use OPTUS. Wanted me to go on-line and HE would talk me through the problems. Got his number.
Contacted Telstra - no such number and they confirmed the scam.

Indian man from Telstra rang to say we were getting disconnected in 2 hours because someone else was using our internet and they needed to fix it. I asked for number to call back on to confirm he was with Telstra, he gave (02) 8005 8423. I googled the number and 'telstra' and ended up here and surprise, surprise, fake!

4/5/2018 - Telstra calling. My internet had been hacked and was being used for illegal purposes. Gave me Telstra ID141299 and phone number (02) 8005 8423. Harassed by calling back before I had time to check with Telstra. Got confirmation from Telstra that this is DEFINITELY A SCAM call. Because I was interested, I called the 08 number and the person answered "Thank you for calling Telstra". BEWARE!!! They keep calling back!

100% SCAM. Had these people call from several different ph. no.'s previously, claiming to be from a technical department of TELSTRA. Today's caller, 'Roger', could barely string a sentence together as his English was so poor.

The call is ALWAYS related to a problem with your internet. e.g. there's been a virus downloaded, there's some kind of technical fault, or even that your ISPN has been taken over by foreign criminals who are now using your details commit international fraud (10 points for imagination!).

They'll initially ask to access your computer remotely (to fix the fictitious problem), then try to extort money via your credit card after threatening to wipe all your files or render your computer useless if you don't comply.

They actually provide a genuine TELSTRA street address, in North Sydney, but of course they are not TELSTRA. Either have some fun annoying them by asking probing or repetitive questions, or just tell them your aware of the scam and hang up.

Apparently Telstra. Gave number to call back on to verify it was telstra and reference.

Seemed very shifty.

Told me my computer would crash in half hour if I didn't follow his prompts. Told him I wasn't with Teltrsa but he said I could be signed with any company but it is still Telstra lines. I said I was busy, so he gave me the number (02) 8005 8423 to call him back to prove he is from Telstra.
A very strong Indian accent.

'Jennifer' told me to access my computer to confirm about a hacking incident.
As I do not use Telstra - I was suspicious and asked for a contact number to reply on as I was currently busy. She was quite insistent that she was working for the telco and needed my computer on to "show you exactly where the hacking threat occurred & no, your security software wont detect it".....
