SCAM REPORT WARNING: I just had a "robot" call claiming to be the Federal Police. Claimed they had received a complaint from the Australian Tax Office that I had committed fraud and that my arrest was imminent. the recording gave a reference number beginning with WX2004 ???? and then a phone number (02) 8005 1164) to contact for verification. SCAM...yes. I contacted the ATO immediately and provided a scam report. ATO verified that this was a scam call. DO NOT contact the number the recording gives you. Contact ATO directly to verify that you do not have a debt or complaint agaisnt you.

I have had the same call. This is the second time they have phoned me. The 1st time I called back & as soon as they asked me for my tax file # I cottoned on. The give away is that they do not use your name. They have no idea who they are talking to.

The same as all. I came home to this number and message - as above on my answering machine. Report the call to the ATO on their number as this is a scam. They are trying to get money out of us all.

Same as others... recorded message claiming to be from the Tax office saying that there will be a warrant for my arrest if I don't call back. Wish this number would be shut down.

Received call today saying exactly the same thing same phone number. These scammers are beyond a joke, they probably scare a lot of people. Shall call ATO tomorrow just to let them know again about the scam.

I received a call from this number stating that there was a warrant out for my arrest and that I needed to contact the Australian Taxation Department. I don't know what their scam is but hardly anyone has paid employment in Australia so how can most people possibly defraud the Taxation Department? Besides, we Aussies are such an honest mob, we would know if we had work or had a high earning capacity where an error could have occurred. Many people work for the Unemployment Benefit and don't receive any salary other than the benefit. I'd would say they are going to have lean pickings and will give up their childish scam any day now...because stupid heads, this scam will only work if people are perpetually dishonest and have something to hide however you didn't factor in that 99.9% of Australians are honest, so your stupid childish scam is not going to work. It was extremely upsetting though, to have such an UNAUSTRALIAN scam in my voice messages. I have family members who rely on me being able to answer their call straightaway. This menace of scam could cause someone not to get medical help when it is needed. When is the authorities going to shut these morons down?

Threatened with prosecution and immediate arrest for case W2754 with ATO unless I called (02) 8005 1164. Didn't use my name. Recorded British machine voice. Obviously a scam but it angers me that there is nothing anyone will do about shutting down that number.

Same "robot" rang me today, 22nd September, with same frightening message. Checked via Google and found your comments. THANK YOU, MAXINE. It's a disgraceful attempt to scare people into doing something - presumably to pay money - or to gain access to their computer. A Scam and a frightening scam.

My answering service just had a "robot" call with a "posh" English sounding voice, claiming to be the Federal Police. It claimed they had received a complaint from the Australian Tax Office that I had committed fraud and that my arrest was imminent. Callback phone number (02) 8005 1164) to contact for verification. Obvious scam in my case but it could stress those that don't know. Should be enough to "send in the cops" to arrest them.
