Heavy Indian accent, apparently an insurance claim was settled and I was getting money, but she didn’t know my name. Spent a few mins convincing her there was a special place in hell for her and she hung up in tears

What is happening to this great country of ours, when these scams are just allowed to continue. Perhaps it’s time to bring all our telecommunications back on our own shores and have Australians work and run them, and not be offshore and run by those that want to scam us and steal from us.

I received a call from a female stating they had received a notification that I had been involved in a car accident within the last 2 years and was wanting more information from me. When I told her to provide the details of the claim she couldn’t provide any. I hung up on her after telling her I knew it was a scam.

Rang to say they're ringing me because I've been involved in a vehicle accident in the last 2 years, when I said no I hadn't, she said oh ok, and hung up.

WARNING: There is a man with a heavy accent phoning flood affected areas, claiming to be collecting for flood relief. The number he is using to make these calls is (02) 8003 7513. He will tell you mumbo-jumbo about how you will get heaps of money in return. Please warn your elderly friends and family and anyone else you know NOT to give any details to these scammers

John claimed to be from Australian Government Tax department & i need to call back in 10 min with ref no to claim my $5,000 for being up to date with payments etc.

i have just received call today by danney , they offered 7000 and Ato has selected me because of my good record.  and insisting me to inform them my first name , i refused and told if ATO selected me then they could send me letter and i would respond and kept asking their employee number and they did hang up.  after searching google, i found this site.
what's going on and who giving them this information.

Thanks Jodie, I didnt either. Had 1 today claimed to be from Aust Gov wanting to give solar rebate. Had our name & Address, bit scary how they get thees details, But i hung up.

I received a call from a guy who said his name was John Williams, he had a heavy Indian accent but he claimed to be calling from ATO claiming my name was drawn to receive $ 5000 from the Australian government.  I asked why I would receive the money and he said - because I'm a good citizen with no criminal records and some similar b/s like that and apparently Julia Gillard has decided to give out some money for that purpose!  He said I just need to ring (02) 8003 7513 - the ATO office supposedly and give my name and they would then give me all the details.  I said - why don't you give me all the details and he said wait and he'll get his senior office manager to talk to me.  Another guy claimed his name was Olsen Jordan and he basically said the same.  They said I should quote an application number A something (three digit number).  I knew it was scam but was intrigued to find out what happens when you ring that number and who it belongs to.  Tried to ring but no one answered.  Tried to Google it and I found this page.  So they've been ringing you guys too.  Would be good to find out who the number belongs to and report it to the police for investigation?  I don't know who deals with such cases of phone scammers...

I also recieved a call from that number today and I called back assuming it was a scam but to was curious! They kept putting me on hold when I called back and they said they were talking to there supervisers, the guy said he would call back in 15mins as the supervisers were all busy, just b4 that though he asked what I would use the money for and I said to pay off debt and thats when he said they would call back. I haven't heard back from them! I don't understand how these companies get my number as it is private, it is driving me insane! Quite often get calls and they just hang up and then on a seperate day will recieve a phone call from some company offering something!

I have contacted the Office of Consumer and Business Affairs But think i will need to report it to the local police aswell. Couple of days later i recieved one for Solar Pannels & they had some information which is a bit scary, but it was an overseas number. I just hung up to that 1
