Claimed to be NBN upgrading my connection. Asked to run speed test and assured me I didn't need to upgrade to get FTTP (not what NBN told me when I called them previously). Booked time and date for Friday between 10-2pm then put me through to the technician who had identical background sounds. I was suspicious and asked for the technician's name and ID - James Williams ID NBN860007 (they kept mixing this up when I asked them to repeat later in the call). Then they asked me to go to a Google page an dI asked for a number to call back on to verify this was genuine. They gave this number which I Googled and found this site. They rang me back 5 mins later and I told them the number was a scam, they hung up. Definitely a scam.

Caller: Low-life Scammer BEWARE - I came close to getting sucked in on this. I reported slow internet speeds to my provider, Telstra and they advised they would call in a day or so. A few hours later I got a call from someone claiming to be from NBN saying they understood I was having trouble with my internet speed. They provided me a technician's number and reference number for the job. After getting me to do a speed test and asking me to confirm the details on my modem they asked me to logon into a team-view site, which I foolishly did. Next they showed me the modem I would be getting, and the time window of when the technician would do the job. Finally the alarm bells went off when they asked me to make a $5.00 payment for the shipping of the modem and they would wait for me to give them the receipt number. When I said I was going to check their validity with NBN, they gave me this number to call, which I did. The person on the other end gave me a similar story but could not advise why this number did not appear on NBN' website. At this point, 45 minutes after the initial call, a sense of urgency crept into the voice of the caller and I hung up. I ran a security scan and changed the passwords on my financial accounts using another device, and after a call to the security software provider, it seems no damage has been done - thanks goodness.

Caller: Unknown Caller "cold-called" home number claiming to be from NBN and said NBN was going to upgrade the data lines with fibre optics. Proposed a speed test and asked me also to download software (Teamviewer - remote access software). This I declined to do for security reasons. When I asked for verification of identity, two operators (John and Eric) said I should call their 'help desk' on (02) 8003 6925 within the next 30 minutes who would verify and explain further. Very insistent. No such number associated with NBN found on internet search. When they were told this and requested further identity verification they rang off. Assume scam.
