07/09/21, received a call from (02) 7251 9500, claiming to be from Telstra and that my NBN connection has been compromised. "Apparently", my VPN is on a public network and not private. They hung up once I asked them some bamboozling technical questions.

Caller: Claimed to be from Mastercard - scam

Answered this call and was advised that I had fraudulent charges on my Mastercard. Caller detailed the charges, time they were made, name they were made in ("Mike Malcolm"). They advised that I couldn't see the charges in my account because they were being "held", and that I had to report them to the fraud department. Caller provided a name and employee number, and 'kindly' transferred me to the 'fraud department'- at which time I hung up and called the bank myself. Interestingly, the hold music from when the scam call transferred me was the SAME as the banks real hold music. The bank advised that there was nil evidence of fraudulent transactions on my account, and that the 'employee number' provided to me was incorrect based on their numbering/lettering system. Bank advised that this was a sophisticated scam. Don't fall for it!

Beware of this unlisted number as it is almost certainly yet another spoofed number being used by cyber criminals. As this number was not recognised it was left to ring out with no message being recorded on completion.

I have had calls in the last few days from different numbers including this one, in Australia, South Korea and Albania. The one time I answered I was told the caller was from NBN and was checking my speed. I hung up as soon as I heard that.

Caller: Claimed to be from NBN co

They rang and tried to arrange an appointment to install NBN modem, used Mark Wilson as the technician and gave me the Helpline number for the real NBN co, asked me to write down and repeat job numbers and modem serial numbers, seemed legitamate knew my name and address but wanted a small payment of $4.95 postage. They nearly got me as I am expecting to be be connected any day but baulked when she wanted a credit card or direct depost, they are fishing for info to create a false ID etc. When I confronted the caller and said it sounded like a scam, she became very loud and urgent so I hung up. They tried to call back four or five times using different numbers so I let them go to message bank, they did not leave a message.
