A person calling himself Jack, pretended to work for Telstra and tried to fool me into believing that there was a special discount on my bill if I provided him with some information.

How it works;
They ring you - currently on (02) 7201 2488 - there was another round back in November on a different phone number - offering a discount of 40%++ on your next month or even 3 months bills - but to accept the offer they just need to verify your identity.
So - DON'T for the love of Pete give them your name, dob or anything else. (I didn't but somehow they still got enough details from online somewhere) (don't put your date of birth on your FB profile if it's public or have your friends messages on your 40th visible - easy to work out your DOB etc and don't answer any of those inane first dog, favourite movie type of thing... it's just fishing for your likely passwords or answers to your security questions)
They will then say - okay, if you don't want to give us the details - we will send you a SMS verification PIN code.
This is where it's absolutely well put together..........
They somehow have someone on their criminal team of tech gurus hacking into or trying to get into your account online.
They somehow trigger the verification code sms - which is now legitimately coming from Telstra and as soon as you give that to them - well.....
They change the email address associated with your account to one of their own - For instance Jar773 @ yahoo.com for instance. - yes legit who they changed it to.
And now you won't get any email notifications of orders or changes and are now locked out of your own account.
6 MONTHS of trying to get Telstra to sort it out.
So many times where they 'promised' it would get fixed.
Even a case with the telecommunications ombudsman and NOTHING.
Goodbye $2560+ ...... OR AT LEAST THEY THOUGHT SOOO...
Do NOT have any of your bank details stored with Telstra. Don't allow them to have your credit card on file.
If they did have mine - I would have been out of pocket $2560 in one hit for a beautiful iPhone 12 Pro Max with the big GB.
I've tried to get Telstra to tell me where this order was going to be delivered to - and somehow they had an incredibly convenient ERROR in their system where they couldn't read the address it was going to be sent to.
Yes - I'm leaving Telstra. No - I'm not sad - over 15 years I think I've been with them.
See ya...

This is quite a sophisticated scam.
They ring you from (02) 7201 2488
Pretend to be Telstra
Offer you a 40%++ discount on your next bill.

They ask you to verify your details - even get you to give them a code (SMS directly from official telstra)- which they are MOST CERTAINLY requesting from legitimate Telstra via their online chat or something to verify...

Once you give that to them and your date of birth, address etc

They will then get access to your online account - they change the email address to one of there's so they can use it. They used Jar773 @ yahoo.com for it.

They will then try and order a top of the line phone - putting the order through and waiting for your account to pay it - SO DO NOT have your bill on auto direct debit - do not have any of your banking details saved on your telstra profile. Seriously - go in and delete your banking and credit card details as soon as you've finished reading this. In my case they tried to order an iPhone 12 pro max for $2,369.

Thankfully I pay my bill manually each month - because they tried this whole thing in December 2020 and it's taken telstra 6 months to get my account back to me.
Of course I am cancelling my account and moving to ANYONE ELSE, because Telstra couldn't even stop this sort of fraud from happening.

It's well put together.

They WILL give you a telstra ID if you ask them for it - however, how are you supposed to check it?

So - tell this mob to f off and get bent.
Oh and Telstra mysteriously had an error in their system and couldn't tell me where the order had requested to be sent to.
Sooo convenient.

Don't answer! These are annoying persistent scammers claiming to be from Telstra. Although they knew nothing about them or me. They wanted personal information which naturally I refused to give. An insidious waste of time completely.

Someone saying he was from Telstra and going to give 40% discount on the bill. He couldn't actually look up my bill and wanted personal information.
