28/2/16 Just got a call from this number saying they are the ATO and that I had an outstanding debt $900 + (forget the exact number) and to pay it immediately via a website. Spammers......... and not a very good one as it was done very quickly, a recorded message I believe. Contacted the ATO and let them know about it.

Caller: Unkown Received 2 emails, from ato @ ato.tax giving the number (02) 6216 3444, asking me to open attachments. ***PLEASE DO NOT OPEN*** It is scammers.

I called back number (02) 6216 3444 spoke to a woman who said company name is (02) 6216 3444.

It is the ATO number but the ATO will not call you from direct line. The scammers are using a mask number from a IP phone. Therefore do not take calls from this number as it is a scam!

Had a missed call from this number, googled it and came up with ATO. I called ATO to see if they had actually called me and they had no record of contacting me. They told me it was likely an international scam and made a report
