Mine was a dodgy recorded message in a computerised voice saying there was a warrant for my arrest because of debts to the ATO. Second time I've received this call and so have other people I know.

Follow up to previous comment. First call from an male possibly an Indian. The call I made was answered a female, probably also an Indian. Question she asked was how far I was from the PO. Now wonder if they would have had time to rob my place while at the PO???? Why can't these people be traced when they provide a telephone number?

A very clever scam. How come they have not been locked up. Once again as per previous comments

I have just had the same phone call. If it was a legit Govt organisation I suggest that they would have all my details asked for.

Yep, likewise indian saying that the government is going to pay me $7,268.00 for overcharged bank fees. Why would the government be footing the bill for banks overcharging???

Scammers, Scammers for sure.
I Had a call today 20/02/2014 at around 3:10 pm from a supposed federal government department advising me that due to illegal bank charges I was owed $7,268.00 To get the money they had me confirming my full name and date of birth. Then I had to call them back on (02) 6172 1127, and provide a Code = GS923. I suspected that this must be some kind of a scam, which they confirmed it to be a scam, by asking me to pay $199.00 upfront.
However, when they asked for $199.00 to be paid at a POST office for legal fees, I immediately knew that it must be a scam, I suggested that they deduct the $199.00 from the amount supposedly due to me, to which they said they were unable to deduct fees from money owed to me.
I wonder if Australia Post knows about this, if so would they NOT be complicit in scams such as this if they transfer moneys to the scammers.
I guess I will send Australia Post a copy of this communications to see what they have to say about this.

Scammers saying they are from an Australian Government Department saying the Government owes you money. Obvious scam - they knew my name and old residential address though so may seem convincing to others.
