Had exactly the same call today he said to call him on (02) 6152 8629

I received a prerecorded message on my answering machine, claiming i had unpaid taxes and charges pending. I suspected it was a scam so called back on my work phone. No answer - sounds like the number is out of order

They called me saying that I have a problem with my taxes ... When I told them am an international student and I do not need to file a tax report or whatever it is ... They changed their minds and said that I have a problem with my visa !! ... Thanks guys for alerting us

Left a threatening message on answering machine, that charges will be lodged against me (didn't specify who in household) while this automated message was speaking I could hear a young woman in the background muttering away and when recording finished she said byee!!!
I have an accountant so I know it is a scam....

A person with Indian accent called from this no claiming he was a Tax officer from ATO.
He wants u not to hung up your phone and go to the bank and make a tranfer to him cause you have been audited by the ATO and fined. He says if not you will be asked to be in the court by two hours and it will cost you many thousand dollars. When he knows that he doesnt have any chance to scam u then he says wilI call the Tax Office and say that you are not showing your income.

I also got this scam call and Googled the number, thanks to these comments I will not buy into it.... tha k you so much for posting this info guys. :)

Same as Trevor, the scammer claimed to be ATO with badge number 3969. He goes by the name of Patrick and demanded to pay up for amount owing to ATO from 2010-2014. He is pretty rude and when pushed for details, he hangs up.

Definitely a scam. I called up scam watch and they agreed.

These losers called my home phone today and it was an automated voice which left a message saying that I owed money to the ATO and that legal action was being taken so call them back.

It is a scam. They pretend to be calling from the Tax Office in Canberra. Plus they are horribly rude if you try to probe.
Please do not pay heed to whatever 'Eric Matthews' or whoever has to say. They will try to scare you by saying that the court will send you a notice etc. and it will be all lies.

P.S. my caller ID showed no number but instead 'Private Number'. However, I asked him to give me his phone number so that I could call him later, and he provided (02) 6152 8643 with the extension 313.

This number is answered by a fellow who calls himself "Sam Miller" who is an officer with the badge number #SAM3969.
His supervisor has an extremely "Indian" accent and goes by the name of Eric Matthews, he does not like a question on the authenticity of this obvious miss match.
He will not pass you to his supervisor as he is a "Senior Taxation Officer"
When pushed for details he becomes quite vague and loses his cool. Then he hangs up.
This is a scam.
For your own enjoyment, ring from a different number and vent your spleen. Then please post for others enjoyment.
I rang them from several numbers for the last hour and tormented them.
I will continue to do this until they change their number or give up.

Claims to be from the Australian Taxation Office, This is not an ATO Number and you should NOT go to the post office and pay them a thing. Call the ATO on the phone number on the website or your accountant. More info about this can be found at Scamwatch.gov.au
