they left a recorded message about tax fraud and then phoned again 1/2 hr later and when i picked up it was quiet and then they suddenly hung up. i have no issues re tax dept and plus they would not leave a recorded messager - so definately a scam of some sort.

Contacted by woman at this phone Philippine accent(?)number claiming that we were being prosecuted by the Tax Department (Not the Australian Tax Office) and to get a lawyer because they were initiating criminal proceedings against us. After repeatedly asking for a name we were passed to her supervisor. Same message.

Message on my service sounded like a computer generated voice saying I would be arrested for tax fraud I knew it must be a scam because the ATO always write about such matters

I just had a call from them claiming that unless I paid $5013 to the ATO I would be arrested in a matter of hours.

Same here man called Tax number claiming that we were being prosecuted by the Tax Department (Not the Australian Tax Office) and to get a lawyer because they were initiating criminal proceedings against us. I rang back and he asked for my criminal layers number I asked if this was the TAX department., he said stop wasting his time and asked again for my details, I asked for more. information and he hung up.
I rang the tax department and they said it was a scam, they would not ring out of the blue and they don't give out numbers like this one 02 6152813

Called on our landline but they did not answer at all.

So, we know it's a scam, we know the number, so why are our wonderful telcos not shutting down that line/number, and/or finding out who is at the other end, and where?

Also got a recorded message from Rod Wilson claimed to be from the tax office and that I was being prosecuted for fraud

I received the same calls on 10 July. Same name and details, but voice sounded computer generated. Caller left a msg & left the same msg about an hour later. Definitely a scam as ATO would never ring about such a serious matter - they would always write.

Same here... American accent, identified himself as 'Rod Wilson', left a msg on our home phone and asked us to call him back on (02) 6152 8613 urgently or risk going through the courts and being arrested...
