Received a pre-recorded voice message from a male, "Alexander Lee", claiming to be from the Australian Tax office. His message stated I'd been reported for tax fraud and evasion, and to avoid a warrant and local court proceedings, I needed to contact him without delay. He gave the number (02) 5306 2282 to call back on (it was also the number shown on caller ID when he rang my mobile).

He (or they) probably harvested my number from gumtree.com.au, as I recently advertised a few items on there, and gave my mobile number for contact.

Reported the scam to scamwatch.gov.au, and also called the ATOs scam number to passed the details on to them.

"The reason for the call is you have defrauded the taxation department and we have received a complaint in your name (never mentioned) for tax avoidance. Please don't disregard this msg.

Was the recording from a well spoken man with an India accent telling me I had been reported to the Australian Taxation Office for 'illegal tax avoidance'
