Caller: Allegedly a Sergeant from the Australian Federal Police

An automated robotic IVR claiming a “Sergeant” from the “AFP” is trying to reach me regarding an ongoing investigation, press 1 to be connected with the relevant department.

Checked with Scamwatch and AFP website to see clear warnings about this ongoing scam approach from cyber/financial crimes with a demand for Crypto payments etc. total scam.

Yes this seems to be an automatic message. If you respond then you get a call from someone claiming to be AFP but with a UK accent from an overseas number. They have no details other than your name/phone/email from a data breach somewhere. Asked them for their location and they provided a NSW office. Asked them for their regimental ID, they provided a number of sorts. Asked them for the active case number, they provided that also. Asked them for a phone number to call them back on - they terminated the call. Definite scam - everyone knows AFP can find you if they need to and it won't be via phone message.

Caller: The "Australian Federal police"

Automated message from the "AFP" about a cyber data breach. Pressed the number to speak to someone. Introduced themselves without a name. When asked who they are looking to speak to, the topic was avoided and spoke about a " data breach. "

Left an automated voicemail, claiming to be the AFP wanting to make contact about an active investigation. No detective name provided. Suggested I push 1 to be transferred to the department. Seems fake.
