Loaded trojan ware onto laptop instructing they be phoned to fix the issue. Pretended to be Microsoft Support team. Instructed a family member to install an app which led to them successfully scamming $ by transferring $ out of family member's bank account and credit card

Why can't this phone number be traced to the subscriber? I had a similar experience, reported to Police with details of THEIR WESPAC bank account . (BSB 732-270 A/c 751625 – EMIL UMAROV), subscriber in Parramatta NSW, phone company PRIMUS (02) 8660 1341 all reported to WESPAC, CBA and VicPolice - 2 years ago - heard NOTHING. Don't you need some sort of ID to open a bank account and get a phone number? Why no follow up?????????????????

Caller: Student came to my IT dept to resolve this after receiving popups

We reimaged machine after confirming with student they had not called the number. Rang the knobs on a private line to ask them where I should send my invoice for the work done to restore the OS on the laptop. They hung up :)

They must have hacked my system to start with as I got this loud voice blocking everything saying someone had my ip address and was able to obtain my info. I ended up doing what they wanted and I could kick myself. I don't have credit cards etc, but I just don't know what to do

Yes the same thing happened to me and the people are very clever to get me trapped by asking me to do this and that on computer and I realised that there is something wrong and checked the phone number and understand that this is hackers business. These people have to be taken to task by cyber police

Caller: the above number

My grandsons school laptop came up with the message that trojan virus infected his laptop. Alarm bells etc to make you panic then this Indian accent man said if I do online shopping on this laptop I said no then he said if I had a laptop that I use and I do then he said I need to check that laptop to see if it has the virus. I am not a dumb person so I said what's my grandsons laptop got to do with mine as the ip address is different. Didn't do what he said and told him he was a scammer. I had in the back of my mind that he asked if I do online banking or online shopping on my laptop ( light bulb went off SCAMMER is on the line). They try to instill panic so just play dumb and hang up.

Caller: First woman sounded Indian. Second woman Anglo accent

They locked my laptop while browsing and displayed a Microsoft Support page with a phone number to call to fix a significant Trojan virus attack infecting my whole home network. They also planted a continuous- playing annoying audio message saying computer is infected with trojan virus and not to shut down or restart computer and immediately contact Microsoft Support. Assuming it is a genuine Microsoft message I called on the number displayed (02) 4067 5367). The female who picked up the call said she is from Microsoft Support and wanted me to hold widows key+ R simultaneously. Then she asked me to type www.microtechassist.com and hit Ok. It then took me to a scammer’s websites where she asked me to join with a code. The word microtech raised my suspicion but the annoying audio playing in the background forced me to go ahead. She then asked me to type the code and took remote control of my laptop. She then typed various price schemes on the notepad to fix the problem - on top of my memory, for single computer $300, $600+ for more computers. I felt straight away a scam and challenged the need to pay and asked her to terminate the annoying continuous audio message. She kept insisting payment and I kept refusing. She then terminated the call. I turned off the laptop; restarted and used my anti-virus to scan the computer for any viruses. Found nothing and all working fine. I can't see any information theft to date. I then used another phone (with caller id turned off) to contact this mob and a woman with Anglo accent answered. I told her to get a real job and terminated the call. I have logged this incident with Crime Stoppers and ACCC. I learned my lesson. Stay safe.
