Caller: Go Travel company Lady said I've won a free holiday in Daylesford Victoria 5 nights mid week for 4 persons. Sounded genuine. I was then told to hold the booking I had to pay 10% holding deposit tonight and then the holiday accomodation was mine no more to pay. The penny dropped when she asked for my visa card details for $105 and I realised I had no idea who or where she was calling from or if the guest house actually existed. Her answers to my questions became vague, ambiguous and she was hinting it was a Government stimulus. She said it may be one of a number of guest houses and I had to pay the deposit before going into the stimulus ballot. I said "goodbye".

I have found it very useful to keep them talking for a few minutes. Then pretend to talk to someone behind you. Then say, "Sorry but I have to read this to you;" ..." because of the high number of malicious calls, this number is being monitored by the Australian Federal Police and you can expect a visit from your local police very soon." They have usually gone soon after the mention of the Federal Police.
