Number came in an email supposedly from PayPal to notify me of an $899 payment request. When I phoned the number the line was very scratchy and hard to hear the person. When asked to repeat which company I had phoned he then said "what do you mean, you phoned me, who do you think you called?" Blocked!

Caller: Older friend paniced after getting bogus webpage alert and rang them

The usual schtick. You have a virus. Best case scenario they charged US250 and actual installed eSet security. Worst case they stole data and installed ransomware. Nasty bogus webpage is how it all starts though.

Caller: I called the number after an alert came up on my desktop PC to fix a Microsoft Security issue

I became concerned when the person answering the phone wanted me to download a non verified microsoft App to fix my security problem. i then hung up.
