Caller: Someone claiming to be Amazon Support in North Sydney This was a person claiming that my Amazon account was being used by someone else and there was an amount on it for an iphone for $1,350.
They did not explain how they "knew" that it wasn't me making the purchase. They knew my phone number (or had made a random call), but did not seem to know my name. They asked if I HAD an Amazon account, and when was the last time I used it. If they were Amazon Support they should have known this.
The operative I spoke to asked if I would like him to cancel the amount. When I said Yes, he then handed me on to his "Supervisor" (who had better English, and not as much call centre background noise), who was then going to guide me to do certain steps on my computer, to cancel this amount. He asked if I did my banking on my phone or my computer and what sort of operating system I had. At this point, I said "no thanks, I will sort it out myself." and hung up. I feel sure he was about to ask me to download some software so he could access my computer.
