I get bombarded with messages from this "Wespac" number. I don't have an account, never had, and will receive about 5 or 6 in a row,

As a Westpac customer, I receive texts from this number (almost instantly) with codes to confirm legitimate payments I am making to new payees. It has never once asked for any of my details. The phone number provided in the text 1300 655 505) is Westpac's online customer service number. If you're receiving texts from this number and aren't trying to make an online payment yourself I'd suggest calling right away - this is a security measure put by the bank to protect you from fraudulent activity!

received three texts simultaneously saying it was am SMS security code to approve online transaction, definitely a scam/fake as no online transactions and doesn't tell you what online transaction...

I have had 3 SMS security code to approve online transaction since 12 July 2021. I have had my mobile number for many many years & was previously a Westpac customer but not for 15 plus years, if this is a Westpac system I am confused. Have reported “misuse” to Telstra.

A verification code sent sms at 2 am to my phone activate in 10 min or its obsolete. Well I do not bank with westpac. Defiantly scam. Please do not try to activate or u give access to your phone info. And for the record my phone number I have had for over 10 years. Banks do not do business this way. Go to your own app on your phone check there not some random sms

Just to clarify....0448 222 001 is a genuine number used by Westpac to send security codes HOWEVER the scam purports to be this number. The difference is that a genuine Westpac text states "Unexpected SMS? Call 1300 655 505. The scam version has this information but then includes a link beneath this. Don't click on it!

sent me a message this morning and advised me to contact Westpac on 1300 number which is not my bank. If you have received similar text messages, better check on google if the mobile phone is existed before clicking on any links.

Message saying NAB alert - restricted access to your account. Just click on the link... I don't bank with NAB and I'm certainly not clicking on that scammers link

Received an SMS asking to use a code provided to log into Westpac Live... eh ? I hope Westpac are watching this site. Either it's scam or they have a problem with their system.

I just received a text from this number, that says:
"Enter xxxxx to activate and open your Bank of Melbourne account. This code will expire in 10 minutes."
I have no intention of opening an account in Bank of Melbourne anytime soon.
But I am just wondering, if it was a scam, how could it ever benefit from me? I am guessing someone is using my phone number to open an account?

Today I got a text message to enter verification code to access my "Share Files". I wasn't transacting shares. I googled the 1300 number it said to call if it wasn't you and it is a Westpac number. It sounds like this might sometimes be a genuine Westpac security text and sometimes not. If you genuinely need to enter a code when actually doing a transaction, the code arrives pretty much immediately. So if a code arrives and you are not doing anything with Westpac, then presume it to be a scam. UNLESS someone has got access to your account and tried something. This DID happen to me once with my credit card. I wasn't transacting at the time so thought it a scam too when I got a code text. Then, uncertain, I checked the account and a large sum of money had disappeared on a transaction. Presumably I could have lost another sum but this one required the verification code which of course I didn't do. Thanks to the code text, I managed to call the bank and cancel the transaction immediately. Phew! So it may be a scam, but if you are a Westpac customer, at least go to your accounts and double check all is okay. What I don't get though, is what is the scam? The only thing clickable in the text is the 1300 number. Might the link actually call a different number?? I'm not testing it.

"security Reminder: when using Online Banking never share your SMS codes with anyone, regardless of who they claim to be."

Maybe some rogue employee having second job as scammer using inside information.

The SMS I received said
"security Reminder: when using Online Banking never hare your SMS codes with anyone, rgardless of who they claim to be."

There is no identification of sender. Scam for sure. Who the hell in this crumbling society takes any responsibility for the safety & security of the telecomms system? For sure & certain it aint the telcos & isps. And if Westpac DID send this message they should not be you supplier any longer.
