I can't believe that I had fallen for Brett John Ryan's extensive web of lies. I wish I had done more research online before handing over $7500.00 for a RAV4. What also shocked me was that he was able to open a bank account with WESTPAC (I don't bank with them) using my driver's licence ONLY which is not even 100pt ID. Stupid me, handed over my driver's licence after he emailed his ... Spent the whole weekend and today (Monday) to report the fraud to both banks, police and RMS. Yesterday, I also reported his new post, identical to the ones he had used, on Facebook Marketplace to Facebook. I asked the police to inform the rightful owner that their car has been used in a scam but the officer could not tell me if he will do it. Asked RMS the same thing and they said it's the police's job. I will be plastering his driver's licence and photos of the car on my personal Facebook page so my friends can circulate it to people they know.

It's not easy to obtain my own records from different institutions and how the hell did he create an bank account (at Kensington Tasmania branch when I had never been) under my name using ONLY a driver's licence is beyond me ... Can't believe it had only dawned on me two days later. It's a very expensive lesson but one I will not forgive and forget. If the police ever catches him, I intend to charge him and tell everyone of the outcome on this site.

It's a shame that I cannot attach a photo of his so-called driver's licence on this site. If you know the owner of this rego, CQ23LI for a 2014 RAV4, please let them know that their car has been used in a scam.

same, its a scam. Recieved an email today 7/11/2022

Same email "ryanbrettjohn @ gmail.com" Content about going away to NZ etc... cheep price for awesome car "delivered to your address". I suspected it was a scam as the offer was too good to be true, even told them my situation and they didnt care. Not good people who are doing this, karma will pay.

Please be aware and listen to your instincts...

Matthew Pettit still getting away with this scam. This time selling 2014 Mazda 3 $7500.00. Exactly same emails as above and sending a photo of himself holding NSW provisional drivers licence. I did not send any money. Phew. BUT he does now have all of my identification. Drivers licence included. Feel sooooo foolish for giving him my ID but those emails were quite elaborate & extremely convincing in the beginning.

Same!!!! He still on CarsGuide. The first time I didn’t want to do payments with someone doesn’t want to speak over the phone plus I don’t trust Escrow... I only reported this to the ACCC after I made an enquiry about another car and guess what... He copied and pasted the same email (just changed car model)!!!!!!! Unreal. I replied back to him asking him how many cars he is in a rush to sell before he goes to NZ and he has sent me back EXACTLY the same second email he sent me back when he replied to me about my first enquiry... I wonder who is that guy in the picture and who is really behind the scam. REMEMBER YOU NEED TO REPORT THIS FRAUD TO THE AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT!!!!!

This person is using an email ryanbrettjohn @ gmail.com. He is selling TOYOTA RAV4 $7500. I found him in FB market and the deal is too good to be true so I tried to look for him thru internet and I found this web. He is still active there. BEWARE.

email 1:
Hi there,

Thank you for contacting me and sorry for taking so long to reply, I've been messed around by one previous buyer for lack of funds, I can confirm that the car is still for sale and never been involved in an accident, Nobody has smoked in it, I've attached some pictures so you can take a closer look at the car, excellent condition without any damage or scratches at all, Mechanically A1, it's a fantastic car, only traveled 68,000 kms, all of which being said I expect to get $ 7,500 for it. The only reason for selling this car so cheaply is because I am involved in a project and I will move to New Zealand on February 10th and not come back for the next 3 years. It's the first time I've been to New Zealand and I'm a little nervous but excited at the same time. It would be a shame to keep the car in the garage for 3 years without being used and I also need some cash before leaving for New Zealand. Right now I am located in Devonport TAS, because our squad it's doing some special training, and in case you decide to buy the car, I will deliver it to your address with our RAAF truck (Transport insurance is included). Besides, it's free and I will give you a 5 days inspection period so you can take the car to a mechanic and test it before I receive your money. Also, It will come with a Roadworthy Certificate and NSW Rego, so you don't have to do the running around, Registration paid until 12 August 2023.
You’ll love the car, I can guarantee you that.

Thank you!
Brett John Ryan

email2:
Hi,

Thank you for your email, as I've mentioned in my post the car is automatic transmission, at this moment I am near Devonport TAS in a military base, waiting to be deployed in New Zealand, I am doing a special training program each day and I am not allowed to get out of the unit or give calls whenever I want, please text me on Whatsapp 0485 838 547 - You can write me a message but I do not know when I can respond, so the best will be if you answer me by email. My last price including shipping to your address will be $ 7,500 (It will not take much more than 2-3 business days to receive the car). Because it's a large transaction, we will complete the deal using eBay Motors coz I already prearranged the whole process with them, the money will be paid via bank transfer, so you will deposit the money online directly to eBay Motors and they will hold and secure your money during the entire transaction. I repeat, they will hold and insure your money until you receive the car in good condition and will release the funds to us only after you decide to keep the car and normally register it, into your name. If by any reason (the car has any hidden damages or it is not as described by me) you can reject the deal, When this happens, eBay will refund you in full, you can rest safe in the knowledge that eBay is one of the most trusted and secure escrow services across the globe. If you wish to go further, let me know your details (full name, full address and home phone number) so I can open a transaction with eBay Motors and declare you as a buyer, I will need your details also to transfer the registration over, eBay will then contact you and explain the whole process in detail. You must know that eBay will contact you without any obligation to buy or pay some fees - The fees will be paid by me.
I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Regards,
Brett
