Caller: Someone from Taxation Message to the effect that my tax number compromised - payment required to release it. Classic scam - block the number Call was preceded by private number call. Tax would never use this approach - and - if you want to check, call their publicly listed contact centre - they will want to identify you first but it is legit.
They would have record of any problems or any attempts to contact you
DO NOT DO WHAT THE CALLER ADVISES - ESPECIALLY IF MONEY OR SOME OTHER PAYMENT IS REQUIRED - CHECK WITH THE TAX DEPARTMENT DIRECTLY OR THROUGH YOUR TAX AGENT/ACCOUNTANT.
