OR - pretend to be interested, find out who they got your number from. As it is likely one of your friends who has been scammed into believing that if they give Vip-tel so many of their friends numbers they can get a free laptop. Which is a load of B.S, nothing in this world is for free.
I know of someone who got fooled and they switched his number to their company and he got a $100-bill to go with it- then they charged him again to switch back to his original provider.
So, find out who they got the number from, contact that friend and WARN THEM!!!

(03) 9936 0500 and 1300 785 847 = EDirect Pty Ltd (trading as VIPTel)

EDirect Pty Ltd is being watched by Australian authorities after being prosecuted by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (the ACCC) for breaches of the Trade Practices Act 1974. See this ACCC link: http://www.accc.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/813144

See this link for a PDF document on the full story:
http://www.accc.gov.au/content/item.phtml?ite ... Undertaking.pdf

On 12 February 2008, Judge Reeves declared that Vishal Gupta and Manan Chopra (then managers of EDirect) “aided, abetted, counselled or procured EDirect to contravene the Act”. Why is this significant?

The Federal Court of Australia (NT) ordered that Vishal appoint an independent Compliance Office within EDirect to “develop procedures for recording, storing and responding to trade practice complaints”.

So, if you have complaints about being deceived or harassed in a call from EDirect (trading as VIPTel) it is STRONGLY recommended that you email your complaint to EDirect at: compliance @ edirectptyltd.com.au Try to include as many details of the call as you can: time, date, operator’s name, what EDirect tried to sell you, why you thought what was said was deceptive or misleading (like they got your name from a friend or a relative who doesn’t exist).

It is also interesting to note that a company called DelhiCall with an address at Sco-34, Sector 14, Old Delhi Guragaon Rd, Guragaon, Haryana 122001 India, lists as its two top managers, Vishal Gupta (CEO) and Manan Chopra (President). DelhiCall states: “Manan’s core competencies include business development, operations management, human resources, systems development and facilities administration. His business development strategies have been a key factor in growing DelhiCall’s operations by more than 500% in just three short years, landing accounts with VIPtel, TrendWest and T-Mobile, to name just a few.” http://www.delhicall.com/aboutus.html Is this a case of the snake swallowing its own tail?

Mif.

if you have been HARASSED by this company JUST LIKE I HAVE.call the "Australian do not call register" on 1300 792 958 [i found it in the white pages]the following is what i have done to WIN my fight against these pushy, rude and ILLEGAL telemarketers.MAKE SURE U STAY ON LINE TO SPEAK TO AN ACTUAL PERSONthey will sign you up tot he DO NOT CALL REGISTER and say it takes 30 days to become active.i then said "what so they are allowed to HARASS me within this time frame?"please quote one or more of the below standards that this company breached when contacting you ENSURE you have told them "you do not have permission to ever call this number again" and they have called back.there are four standards that telemarketers MUST follow, including: "termination of calls when requested" "showing line identification""calling during normal times""giving company details"despite what they say DO NOT hang up within making a formal complaint against the company. This will turn the matter into a LEGAL matter, the more of us that do this the quicker the problem is solved by all.congratulations on helping me WIN the fight against TELEMARKETERS.
