THEY ARE SCAMMERS DON'T LISTEN
I have a similar complaint differant phone no it was (03) 9016 0281 heavy Indian accent going by the name Kevin from south Melbourne telling my husband someone was trying to hack into my computer for the last couple of weeks & he could fix the problem my husband told him he didn't know how to work the computer & got that phone no off him & said he would get me to call back which i didn't because there wasn't anything wrong with the computer this is not the first time we have had these phone calls claiming differant things wrong with the computer.
Total scam. They called me about 6 times last year claiming to be from Microsoft and offering to help clear viruses they had detected off my PC. This seemed rather odd as I only have a Mac, and when I pointed this out they hung up.
I'm on the no free call list these nasty people were trying to scam me into software I don't need.
I have had a number of these calls too. The one tonight (who couldn't even properly identify who he was supposed to be representing!) was an almost unintelligible Indian gentleman sporting the unlikely name of Mac Taylor (anyone else watch CSI New York????). He was fast with the double talk when I asked him to give me the serial number of the machine in question, and even faster when I asked him to send an email outlining the supposed problem. Have some fun with them when they ring. It's what a con man deserves. This one's contact number was (03) 9008 4298. If he was genuine, Windows should look to their training to avoid their staff looking like con men.
I understand your bad feelings becuase I have gone through this too. Try (02) 9211 6916 and speak to Jenner Chan. She is accepting calls regarding the issue but so far no luck.
you suck
Can anyone tell me if this number from melbourne is a scam (03) 9008 0255 called himself Brain williams workd for widows service. He is asking for the same thing, acess to my computer to fix a problem
21/06/2012 I have just received a call from an Asian speaking person, called John Miller? He said he was from Windows Service Centre, Melbourne, telephone No (03) 0998 4255 and that my computer was corrupt. I hung up and feel this is a scam.
did they say they were from Microsoft, if so it was definitely a scam! I have had so many of these calls, I say I am busy and I will return their call and thats when they hang up on you.
Hmmmmm...David William Johns and Graham William Johns. Bet you guys are the scammers. Poor english, spelling mistakes. Can't even spell your name right!
Lastnight I was on the phone , cold call, Indians trying to fix corrupt virus on my computer, name was Paul Watson and Brad Wilson. I did not complete
the exercise but hung up, I'm glad I did, I believe it to be a scam.
Please everyone, be careful.
Dodgy group from India trying to get credit card details...t
Phone call from supposed "Windows" group asking to talk to me about my computer. This is about the 5th time they have called!
This is a good start but does anyone know how to increase awareness to this? I received an annoying phone call this morning by theis guy asking me the same things. No way to track back to microsoft corp and in the background you could hear other Indian accents in some call centre. The guy who called himself David Gordan with a clear Indian accent insisted he was in Melbourne but the time delay between speech was clearly too far to be Melbourne.I did have faulty torrent files and so i was curious. Maybe they had something to do with the corrupt files. Or they got my number from white pages...Whats going in?
I got a call from "Brian Smith",very Asian accent, today giving me the same story. I also called tech support who told me to ignore all such calls. I also got a similar call on Saturday, but when I asked for a number to call back, they hung up.Ignore all calls from this number.
My father in law just got a call from 'Victor' at the 'Computer Service Centre for Windows' and promptly called me to verfy and pass on the details.I called them back on this number (which is a VOIP redirect to an overseas number) and spoke with 'Victor'. He ranted on about having detected malicious downloads on my father in law's PC via their 'detection routers'. When pressed for technical details he handed me off to his manager. He too was unable to confirm anything even mildly technical but was happy enough to direct me to www.support.me which reditects to a LogMeIn page. This service (provided by LogMeIn who are legit) allows a remote, unverified user to take full control of your PC. It's designed fro remote IT admins to manage distributed PCs, but also allows them to pretty much do anything on our PC.That's where I stopped, knowing the next step was destined to doom my PC.This is a scam, they are cold calling or off a list and they do not know what your internet usage or problems are. HANG UP or, if you know what you're talking about, keep them talking for an hour on technical issues, listening to them trying to work out why you can't log into their site and have a little fun. ;-)
Received a phonecall this morning (Caller ID "UNAVAILABLE") to tell me I had "corrupted Windows files" on my PC and they needed to be sorted out. When I asked who was calling I was told he was from "Windows Servicing Centre / Computer Maintenance Department" and would I start up my PC while we talked. I said I wouldn't as I don't know who you are and I can't trust his advice as I have a reputable Internet Security Package installed and nothing has been "Flagged up" to suggest any corruption of files.
The caller had an "Asian" accent yet said he was based in Melbourne, Australia in the Windows Call Centre and gave his name as "Eddie Paterson" & Employee ID No. 101. I was not happy with his assurances, so he told me to call him back on the phone number (03) 9016 3432 so that one of their technical people could discuss what needed to be done to rectify the "corrupted internet files" and for him to do a 'remote' scan of my system, using a unique 6-digit "security authorisation code".
He was very anxious for me to phone the number he'd given me and kept saying "When will you be calling back?" I said I'd have to think about it and I rang off.
Being suspicious - I phoned my Service Provider and told them about the call and was advised NOT to dial the number under any circumstances as it sounded very much like a "SCAM" to attempt to access my system and all data stored on it !!! He assured me that any reputable Internet Security Package (McAffee / Nortons etc) installed on a PC would flag-up any 'corrupt' files on Windows.
Has anyone else received calls from this number, or any other, with requests like this ? Would be grateful to share your experience - WHO CAN YOU TRUST THESE DAYS TO BE WHO THEY SAY THEY ARE !! ?
