Caller: (03) 9000 3421 Received SMS (0407 545 236) 2 days ago claiming my PayPal account had been referred to ARL for further action ... didn't go to the website link or call as I don't have a PayPal account. Received call from (03) 9000 3421 today and Indian guy called me by first name and said he was from ARL on behalf of PayPal. I told him I didn't have a PayPal account, but thanks for trying to scam me. His only reply was 'Oh'. PLEASE REMEMBER T NOT PROVIDE ANY PERSONAL DETAILS OVER THE PHONE TO SOMEONE WHO CALLS YOU. They can mask a real phone number.

PayPal scam. They asked me to return the call at 1300 303 849 and provide a call reference number that they left on the voicemail. I did as I was curious to see what they would do. A male with an Indian accent told me I had an outstanding debt on my PayPal account (which was not true, I checked it prior to calling them). When I said I didn't have an outstanding debt, he tried to get my details to verify who he was speaking to, when I said they must know that as they had my number, used my name, and gave me a call reference number only 5 minutes before, he got flustered. I hung up. They haven't bothered to contact me again about this apparent outstanding debt.

Caller: Claimed to be from ARL Collections Just for the hell of it I called the number. Didn't reveal too much info to them. Indian sounding voice. He um'ed and ahh'ed as he mumbled that he was looking for my account which I had given no info. I said I had no recollection of having dealt with ARL. I also said that I had put the 09 900 3421 number into Google and it came up as a scam so out of interest I was just ringing to see what the scam was. He said that maybe I should not be ringing the number then. I then said that the scam info said that it was claiming to be associated with PayPal and he chuckled and said "on well you do know something about it then" and then he wished me a good day.

Caller: Illegible Indian accent.. made out ARL Im in the habit now of immediately looking up numbers on Google to see if they are legit so good luck scammers! I never answer my phone unless its a known number and I block all suspicious numbers. So, if you're a scammer then get used to gutter you crawled from!

called and hung up in less than one ring. If its a scam, who cares. If it legit then they are scamming the system to say they called when they didnt

Caller: (03) 9000 3421 This is not a scam. This is a legitimate Australian debt collection agency. I called Paypal directly and they confirmed that it is their Australian debt collection agency, however their was no outstanding amount against my account. The likely cause was someone has fraudulently created another account in my name and racked up debts. I contacted the debt collection company and we worked out that only my name and phone number matched. My address, birthday and email did not match their records which confirmed this was not me. The case has been closed. Be diligent, but call PayPal first for their feedback.

Caller: ARL For all the people who are mentioning the Indian accents - not ever working foreigner is a scammer. This number called me and I confirmed with PayPal directly that it is legitimate due to an unknown negative balance on my account. I did receive emails but they were flagged as spam / scammers. When i contacted them, the man I got on the other end was lovely and very informative. He too had a strong Indian accent. Caucasians/Westerners have tried to scam me plenty and they do it better and with far more ease due to them not being instantly looked at as a scam artist.

Caller: ARL COLLECTIONS DOCKLANDS MELBOURNE This is definitely PayPals customer service collection agency. I called PayPal directly to confirm that this was legitimate and confirmed with them which details I would hand over before settling the $36.03c that I didn't think I actually owed due to them being flagged as scammers. I used my virtual card as everyone always should as the details change every 24 hours and I just blocked card use until those details change. It's a shame we have to go to these lengths just to make a payment but it's just our reality unfortunately so just keep educating yourselves on how to stay protected!
