My wife received a phone call purportedly from Centrelink, it was apparently a recorded message claiming that we had failed to respond to numerous letters and that there had been an increase in payments. As we hadn't filled out the application form for back pay our files were being sent to Canberra. A couple of phone numbers were quickly quoted but not recorded. Then the instruction Press 1 if you are a pensioner?

The incoming call ID had recorded this number which turned out to be not connected and a subsequent check with Centrelink and found my files were clear and the phone number was false.

Based on this facts it appears that it is part of a scam.
