This is what I believe is happening. 1. They have your Visa card number and have attempted to withdraw money from your account using a know site name. It could be 1 cent, as in my case, or more. 2.This generates an automatic text response from your Bank which asks you to reply "yes" if you approved it, or "No" if you did not approve it. This is a legitimate response. REPLY "NO." 3. In the text message the bank says they will call within the next 2 hours. 4. The scammer knows the system and calls you within minutes of you receiving the text. This is where the lies begin - they are not the bank. STOP. Tell them you will go to the bank and sort it out. Hang up.

Caller: I didn’t get the call in time Sounds like the top comment has it right. I didn’t take the scam call so missed the second part. The bank contacted us and froze the card.

Caller: Text messages from “Westpac”? From 19th May 2025 through to 21st May 2021 the same has happened to me. Exactly the same what Geoff experienced. I received 2 phone calls from these so called fraud agents from Westpac, but I was highly suspicious and did not entertain their phone calls and hung up.
