Threatened to stop my pension payments until such time as payment was made by me. Realised it was a scam when they requested payment via I Tunes.

Received call today from (02) 9099 1773, stating because I haven't responded to mailed correspondence (it was a recorded message) would I ring this number and quote application number 080456 regarding back payments and increase from Centrelink. I didn't ring back as I thought it may be a scam.

Man rang my parents and advised that there Centrelink account had been moved to Canberra from Bega office. Had scheduled an appointment for them to see Stacy in Bega office the next day. For identification purposes needed to purchase a 500 ITunes card and call back with the reference number on the back of the card. Stacy does not exist in Bega Office and Centrelink confirmed it was a hoax. This is a Scam.

I had the same thing, apparently from centrelink canberra, and told to ring and quote 080456. I called Centrelink after and I was re-assured that they will not call will a recorded message, but they actually verify the ID of the person who answers the call before releasing the info that they have. She suggested to alert ACCC as it appears to be a scam.

Said they were Centrelink said to call (02) 9099 1773 quoting 080456 - scam of course. They are persistent - have received 2 messages from them on the voicemail.

A long message from Centerlink with an application number left on my mums answering machine. I called (02) 9099 1773 and was asked to provide name, address & DOB. I told them to give me the name relating to the application number but they couldn't. I then told then I am googling the number to see if this was related to a scam and they hung up.

Definitely a scam - the reference number I received was exactly the same as Ronald was given 080456. I reported the scam to Centrelink.

Received on long message like above reports, when I rang them back I said I didn't understand their message and asked which company is this? He answered, we are not a company and hung up. Both Asian accents - the message and guy answering. I am still in the dark as to why they called and why they hung up, how does this help them if it is a scam? But, now I have read the other comments, glad they did hang up.

I called back - Indian voice named "Jeffrey" said everyone over 60 was entitled to a Centrelink payment. I am very suspicious this is NOT Centrelink
