Keep getting calls from this number - 4 in the last 2 days. I refuse to answer the call - just let it ring out. I am on the Do Not Call Register but it doesn't make any difference.

Just looked up Rural Fire Service website to double check and turns out it is a scam caller. In hindsight they said they were calling for the 'royal' (rather than 'rural)' fire service. they also rang early Sat morning - when people are still waking up/off guard - so beware. The text below is taken from the Rural Fire Service website (www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/dsp_content.cfm?cat_id=1262)Beware of Bogus FundraisingMembers of the public have reported receiving telephone calls selling a variety of raffle tickets, making requests for donations or selling advertising purporting to be for the benefit of the NSW Rural Fire Service. Some of these may not have been genuine.Donations & RafflesAs a general policy, the NSW Rural Fire Service DOES NOT seek donations over the telephone. NSW RFS volunteer brigade members may, from time to time, carry out legitimate fund raising efforts in their local area. These are generally undertaken through doorknocks, letter drops, at various community functions, etc.Brigade members should always be in full uniform when fundraising legitimately. If you have any doubts, please simply phone your local RFS Fire Control Centre to establish the bona fides of the request. The association that represents our volunteers and salaried staff, the NSW Rural Fire Service Association, does undertake telephone sales of raffle tickets. The operators are required to establish their bona fides to any caller and to offer a return call number (They can be contacted on 1300 886 067). They send out pledge letters as opposed to seeking direct donations. This is a legitimate activity to benefit our volunteers.

Called last few nights, leaves a blank voice message. Probably another useless scam

Claimed to be from the Rural Fire Service association (funny 'cause I got a call last week from the same number claiming to be from the State Emergency Service Association).Trying to raise funds for "our emergency services volunteers" - funny last time I looked at NSW Treasury documents both organisations are fund by the NSW Govt.It seems this association has charity status and is exempt from the Do Not Call register.
