This number is Optus technical support - if you miss a call from them you will likely then get an SMS followup requesting a call back time.

tech support uses this number, so do their high pressure team of sales reps who try to tell you things will be cut off unless you update. hang up, get online and get a better deal, not at the terms and prices they are offering. Its legal, it gets sales, and you have fallen victim to the overpriced service. By the way they will offer 25% your mobile if u switch to nbn, plus some bread knives....

This is definitely a legitimate number for Optus Technical Support, they called me specifically in regards to an issue I had reported to them, and quoted from my past correspondence about the issue on their system without my having to volunteer any information.

Please note however that it is certainly possible that scammers may also spoof this same number when contacting you, in order to make themselves appear more credible. I have not personally had any experience of that, but it is definitely technically possible so it may actually be the case that both kinds of comments here are legitimate – those saying it is legitimately Optus who called them, and those saying it was scammers.

I had the same thing happen tp me. When they put me on hold I could hear children playing and speaking in a foreign language. I am going to change from Optus as this happened when I rang them to ask for help and was told they will transfere me to their technicians. I then used the message section with my Optus account and was put through to the same people who could not confirm they were Optus and were asking for me to give them proof of who I am. They were wanting my name, phone number, address and bank account details. I hung up. I will never trust anything from Optus again as there is no way to be sure you are speaking to them. It is nearly time for me to pay more money to them but I will not do this and will look for a telco that has someone in Australia who answers the phone when I need to make contact.

I was ringing on behalf of a friend who has no land line service working and the tower for her mobile is being worked on so no service. They should be contacting her and not me.

Just adding to the list and saying that it's late Aug 2022 and this Optus Tech number is still being stolen or used for deceptive purposes by a third party. Since I used the Optus complaint system on their site, I have had two different so-called Optus numbers call my mobile without warning. I have no doubt that they have infiltrated or hijacked the site and can see who is making enquiries and what their mobile phone number is. And then try and call and try and make themselves seem all above-board, but really just trying to get you to buy overpriced phone packages of whatever.

Consider yourself lucky if you get a call back from this number because they are the most helpful team of support in Australian telecommunications history.

Spammer can obviously spoof numbers, so still use common sense.

I don't think it's optus, tried to tell me to pay $100 a month for samsung A32 including calls and texts. On the optus website it's $13 a month for the phone over 3 years then $45 a month for 20 GB that doesn't add up to $100. Then they tried to get to a Motorola phone on some plan
