I just got a call telling me it was from the Department of Verification and my refund would be sent once my identity was verified. As I don't pay tax or have any other refund due it is obviously a scam

This was purported to be from the Australian Taxation Office with a refund of $783 and requiring my details. It is obviously a scam.

This message is still being left (mine arrived today 14/5/2012) Who else to notify?

I just got same message and when I phoned the number back the lady wanted me to verfiy my information. When I said "how do I know this is the taxation dept" She said she couldn't help me and hung up. Big Scam

I also recieved this message and didn't think it sounded correct so I googled the number and up popped this web site!

Same here..exact same automated "text to voice" American accent you can download from just about anywhere on net. With exactly same message ATO & same refund amount $783. Obviously a scam, but went along with it to see where it would lead. It seems their ultimate goal is to have you read details from your real Tax assesment to them over the phone including your bank details , passwords & even so bold as to ask for your CC details for "Taxpayer verification Purposes"..... What a sham

I had call from these people,8/5/12 with the same details regarding my tax rebate.

A message recorded message was left on my answering machine state we had a tax refund of $783 owing to us also as above requiring detail to confirm SCAM if you are have a refund coming the tax office notifies you by mail.

Just had a call from an automated service requiring me to call the tax office on this number. The refund owing to me was also stated to be $783.

I got the same message and when I phoned the number I was answered by the same woman who had left the message and she wanted my tax details for verification.
Obviously a scam which I have passed onto the Australian Federal Police and to the Tax Office.

You received a call from a cold calling scam phone number! My mother had a call from this number asking for her tax file number. The lady on the end sounds 100% legitimate. She claims to be from the ATO and promises a $700 dollar tax rebate. If you get a call from this number report it to the police.
