Good on you. I to have been in touch with that unfortunate business which is suffering because of the name similarity. They advise that the matter is before the courts, so some form of redress may soon see this practice being given the once over to make it less intrusive.

Sick & tired of receiving almost daily calls from the above mentioned number.
I don't answer them any more, but equally inconvenient when I use my mobile phone to work from & even more frustrating when they're unwelcome & univited interruptions that delay & could potentially lose anything I'm working on at the time!!

24/7 direct has another number, they just called again as a 'courtesy call about my insurance cover', which has NOTHING to do with them, and despite the risk that they are damaging the brands they are associated with they just keep calling. The Do Not Call number is 1300 792 958. The Telecommunications Ombudsman is 1800 062 058. The number for the Federal Minister for Communications is (02) 9327 3988. Its time some calls were made about the law regarding trespass into our lives in our own homes.

I have been getting calls from 24/7 from the 08, 07 & now 02 area codes. I don't answer calls from numbers that I don't recognise & then look up reverseaustralia.com for these helpful comments. I then block all incoming calls from these numbers & only receive information of the blocked calls after the event. Thank you Reverseaustralia.com

24x7 Direct Are Going to Remedy the Situation

Please read my statement below:

I have been receiving calls from 24X7 direct on the almost daily basis where nobody talks and just hangs up. The calls began when someone on an 02 8XXX XXXX number called and asked me if I had life insurance. I said "No" and politely asked the caller "how he had obtained my number" as I have never received any telemarketing calls on my mobile number before, he replied "Australia on Disk". At no time did the chap identify himself as being from 24X7; however, my wife has worked in several call centres and in telemarketing and is able to confirm for me that these companies will often call you and say that they are from the company they are being paid to represent. So far, all "fairly" above board I suppose.

Today, I received a call from (08) 7070 2352 at 10:54am. When I picked up I could here breathing on my receiver but nobody spoke. As someone who has been the recipient of harassing phone calls in times past I found this rather distressing. A little digging revealed that the calls were coming from the above mentioned company, so I attempted to contact their director of operations in order to resolve the issue. At 11:30am reception told me he was in a meeting. I explained that I was receiving harassing phone calls from their company. On the third attempt I explained that if he would not speak to me, my next call would be Victoria police as harassing phone calls are not a matter for ACMA but for the police. I was immediately put through to a Mr Avi Abrahams.
At approximately 12:50pm, Mr Abrahams explained to me that the calls I was receiving from their company were as a result of their predictive dialler calling my mobile phone number and that if one of their agents is available someone will answer. As no agent was available the machine just hung up. I said that ACMA requires telemarketers to identify themselves by name and to state the company they are calling from. He agreed with me that I was correct about those two requirements, but, as I had not spoken to one of their agents ACMA's requirements do not apply. I said that because no one actually speaks to me during the call that it is impossible to tell the difference between whether the call has been made by a legitimate business or is of a harassing nature.

I believe, that this practice of using a predictive dialler to call up leads without the machine identifying the company it belongs to is an unethical practice. Fortunately, Mr Abrahams, has suggested that they should get the predictive dialler to say something along the lines of "welcome to 24x7 direct, your call will be passed on to our next available agent" as what has been occurring here will be putting their company in a bad light and may prevent other companies from doing future business with them.

Mr Abrahams, has apologised to me for the inconvenience and assures me that this issue will not be put on the back burner. He has since emailed me with confirmation, including call logs, which show I have not spoken to an actual person, which I personally find very reassuring.

I would also like to thank Mr Abrahams for his handling in what is a serious matter for me and hope that they will consider what has happened here in all of their future business dealings.

I’m sure that this has been very inconvenient for the poor guys at the similarly named business, 247 Distribution, who appear have copped a slaughtering from complainants here on the web and at their reception. This appears to have been the result of 24x7 Direct not appropriately identifying themselves when using their predictive dialler and the confusion caused by the similarity in the two separate companies’ names.

I also submit that ACMA should extend some of their requirements to include the usage of predictive diallers to ensure they are used appropriately. I will be contacting them with regards to this issue.

I have also explained to Mr Abrahams that I would be posting his promise regarding their company’s predictive dialler on the web for all to read. I have done this to ensure accountability (as I am now on their DNCR and would have no way of knowing this has been actioned) and in the hope that this does not happen again to anyone else.

Nathan, thank you for this comment, it really does set the record straight and we hope that you all receive the results that you need.
To assist you all further.
https://www.donotcall.gov.au/onlineNumReg.cfm
This is the register that will remove you and your numbers (fax, land and mobile), if any telemarketer based in Australia calls you after you are removed (allow 1 week for removal), report them, and they will be fined.
This is an example of the ACMA rulings,

On behalf of 247 Distribution, (www.247distribution.com.au). We are sorry for any unwelcome calls that you are receiving. The phone calls are not coming from our business, or any business that 247 Distribution is associated with. It is our clear understanding that they are coming from a telemarketing company (www.24x7direct.com.au) based in Melbourne that has a very similar name to 247 Distribution. Indeed after speaking to the company’s Director of Operations, Mr Avi Abraham's, Mr Abraham’s has assured me that the script that his business is using to make the calls is effective and clear, meeting all the ACMA requirements. I have passed on the feedback to Mr Abraham’s during this phone call and to Mr Abraham’s credit he has assured me that he will deal with any complaints that you might have and will personally resolve all issues if you bring them to his attention.

Feedback is important, and we would be very grateful to the recipients of calls from 24x7direct to pass that feedback onto Mr Abraham directly, rather than to the excellent reception team at 247 Distribution.

Hi Lucy

I called 24/7 distribution and they were actually really nice. They are not the ones involved but have been copping a lot of heat for it the past week. The manager there gave me a name of 24/7 direct and stated that they were reporting to ACMA due to the number of complaints they were receiving about it. Better still, I found a number for 24/7 Direct and had a chat with a manager there. After painting him into a corner where he had agreed that his company were parasitic scum who harass people he agreed to remove me from the list and has been assured that Vic police will be my next call if I hear from them again.

Company details are:

Just got a call from a private number who said they'd called today and were a Sydney based company and wouldn't tell me their name. The missed call today was (02) 8014 7673. When I rang just then the server couldn't be reached. He was rude and arrogant, kept telling me I was going to get daily calls from him and his colleagues. And told me I was a liar. When he rings back tomorrow I'll abuse him and see if he calls back after that.

Unfortunately if you enter competitions often, there can be a clause in the terms and conditions that the company running the comp may give out your details, but who reads all the terms and conditions eh? I have had numerous calls from various similar annoying places, so i just save the number as "Annoying dont answer", so i dont answer and waste my time.
