Yet another, same message left on my answering machine (tax evasion and willful fraud). Thank you all for reporting this, saved me chasing it elsewhere. Doesn't sound like the sort of message an Aussie government department would leave (actually they are trained not to leave any details on a message because of privacy issues).

Same as previous complainants. I got a message on my answering machine which sounded like a computer generated male voice claiming they were calling from ATO in Canberra. I'm in Sydney. It's outside of business hours, ATO website lists phone number & business hours.

still using the same MO "Left voice mail message saying they were from the Australian Tax Office and that legal action had been taken out in my name (no name was given) for tax evasion and fraud.

Same for me. Male voice left message saying from ATO and had a legal lawsuit for tax evasion and fraud and to call that number. I immediately thought it was a scam and Googled the number. Appears I was right.

Just got the same call about to report, if in doubt, always Google it people!

same message, American accent saying to contact attorney.. we don't use that term very often in Australia, reeks of scam. Have notified ATO Bne

Same number and call. Sounded like Bill Smith , tax office, fraud, dont ignore call etc. message left on fone 3/6/2015 WA

Same as above, contacted the ATO.

Also had the same thing with (02) 6152 8675 but also rang again with another number (02) 6152 8656. Seem to be changing numbers frequently in the hope of avoiding police detection.

Another Tas one here. Except this guy didn't even say ATO, he said ATL....whoops. Someone needs to memorise their script a bit better, he's letting his scammer buddies down.

Received the same message on this number today (I'm in WA). Left on my message-bank. First indications it was a scam... Did not mention MY name directly and called himself "Michael Smith" (not very original). Said at the end... "Do not ignore this only warning - contact immediately!". Hope they get these scumbags?

Had the same call left on my home phone no names mentioned stating legal action for tax evasion and fraud call back immediately and do not ignore this massage . I felt it has to be a scam

Received the same message as John. It is a SCAM. Do not return the call, or provide your name or details if they call you. Report to AFP (Aust Federal Police) or Scamwatch.
