This has just happened to me! They left a message & I called the number back. Very stressful, I was very angry with them & asked heaps of questions. It didn't even cross my mind that it was a scam. After they put me on hold & then hung up on me I rang my Tax Agent asking what was going on. Thank god I didn't give them any of my information, so easy for them to steal your identity!

Just got a call from them claiming that they were from the ATO and legal action was going to happen against us if we didn't sort out our tax 'error' quickly.
It is a scam!

A client of our was called on this number
Someone calling himself Kenneth Matthew left a message on his answer phone to the effect he (John) was going to be investigated by the ATO and ASIO and he (Kenneth) could help. He left a telephone number (6140 3464) and I just rang it to see what happened. It was answered by someone saying thankyou for calling the Australian Taxation Office. Scam

I also had a call from someone at this number, on the 12th, saying he was Dr Matthews from the ATO and we needed a tax review. Thank goodness i looked here first!
