Caller: Scam targeting Apple

Message appeared on IPad stating that we were being targeted by malware. Knew it was a scam, but rang to tag them along a bit. They wanted credit card details to buy software to clear it (we already cleared it ourselves). Scam sounding like it was based in India. They got a little angry when they realised we were just stringing them along. If you choose to do the same, say hello to Richard (obviously not his teal name) for me. :-)

This is a scam. Just go to your settings, go to safari and clear website history and block all cookies to get rid of it. Don't call the number the scumbags try to get u to do. Just clear data and ignore them. This has happened to me years ago to and I'm pretty sure they can't get any information from u, they are just wanting u to call and give your details

Caller: (Tthere was no phone call as such)

About 12.20 a.m. Monday, was using iPad Mini, as I searched for something, a message popped up to ring this particular number. Then soon after, a message (supposedly) from Apple Security about a Malware Virus and to contact this number (which I didn't, being so early in the morning.) Today I searched for that number in BING, got several pages of results for two similar numbers, only the last three digits differing. The telephone numbers for Apple, when I searched, were quite different.

I was in the middle of watching a tv show on safari on my iphone and all of a sudden I had a page pop up that said people were trying to hack my phone and to call a certain number to get it unblocked. As I called I spoke to a person named josh who explained to me that people were trying to hack into my phone. This kind of freaked me out so I had a listen to what he had to offer me.. He explained that I needed a certain software put on my phone to protect me from these so called hackers and told me the price ranges of them. As I gave him my keycard details he informed me that my details on my card were invalid as it was not a visa or MasterCard. I explained that I’d be able to apply for a new card today and he told me he was going to put a “temporary” 15 day block on my phone in order for me to wait for my new card. He sounded Indian and so did the other person I spoke to which I believe was Richard if I remember correctly. I’m glad I looked up this number online other I would’ve made a horrible mistake give out my information to these scammers!!
For anyone who is trying to unblock or unfreeze their safari you just simply hold the app, if you’ve got the latest IOS it should pull up 4 different options.. Click “New Tab” and once a new tab loads delete the blocked tab. Hopefully this helps anyone who’s going through the same thing right now.

This is a pretty funny scam. I got the ipad message and was instantly aware it wasn’t right. I called the number a couple of times (from different phones-they’ll block you as soon as they know you’re not buying in) and had a great old time chatting to Richard! I figured- the longer I tied him up “looking for my credit card to pay the $300 needed to unblock my phone” the longer he couldn’t take any other calls from someone more naive. I got to 7 mins. I challenge you to get longer!

Josh assured me it was legit I was stupid enough to go with 15mins later my son comes home I told him and he told me I had been scammed as apple never asks for cc details !! Phoned bank cancelled details !!! BEWARE ALL
A Kevin called me back to tell me to go into Safari and clear browser then my iPad was working again !!!
