The same happened to a friend of mine while checking on Facebook and as soon as he clicked on a video, a Windows Defender message came on and asked him to call Microsoft on this number. Being curious and to be safe, I used a landline to call them to see how much control they may have over the computer. But they were asking for my mobile number.

DO NOT CLICK ON ANY LINK OR PHONE THEM. I had to reboot my computer using control, alt, delete as this was the only way I could stop it from popping up.

Caller: Their number came up on a security breach message. Said I needed to call them. A security breach popped up on my laptop & it said to ring Microsoft on this number. They said hackers were trying to get into my computer & they kept me on the phone for about half an hour until I got suspicious & questioned them about whether they were genuinely Microsoft. They suddenly went silent and hung up.

They claimed to be Microsoft and harassed my Mother, aged 80. They got her to download software and took control of her computer. They tried to get her to log into her bank account, but she wouldn't. They then harassed her with 25 phone calls before I got involved. All numbers following this 1800 numbers were New Zealand numbers
