Caller: I called the number provided
I got a msg on my laptop from this number. “ you computer is licked” I called the number. The asked questions if I use my laptop for emails, , banking etc. Told him only for online classes. He then asked me to hold down my power button for 7 seconds and when the screen turns black to wait 1/2 hr before I can turn it.back on. I suspected he was a hacker and wanted me to provide info thus the questions about banking etc. I turned on my computer and it came on immediately

I do computer support for a computer securty firm and see this scam regularly as a popup on the computer screen.
Please note Microsoft do not have a detection service seeking you to contact them - it is hard enough to get them to help when YOU call them!
The scammer wants access to your computer, show you something normal is actually a problem, then want payment for 'fixing' the computer but want this while still being connected to your computer. I've had multiple people advise me someone later accesses their bank account and a lot of money is taken. I suspect a keylogger program is installed during the 'fix' allowing the scammer to collect your bank log in details.
The message on the screen varies, from Microsoft, Nortons, McAfee, sometimes it is a small box, sometimes a loud voice comes over the speaker saying the computer is locked for your protection. You get out of it by holding ALT-CTL-DELETE> signout then go back in and remove the unwanted extension from one or more browsers. Restart the computer.
The popup is caused by a web-browser extension called GOOGLE DOCS OFFLINE. Remove this extension. Check each browser.
