Got text claiming to be from "ATO" saying they will cancel my ABN, if I don't ring this number. 13 72 26

Checked with my Accountant who says there is no message to this effect with the Australian Tax Office.

It's a SCAM, Your ABN can never be cancelled and the REAL number is 13-92-26. They're taking advantage to be on the homepage using Google AI, First link being an (ATO help fourm site) fake.

Received an email saying my ABN will be cancelled due to inactivity. I called 137226. I have been asked security questions including if I have nominated a bank account where ATO can use to refund tax return. I said I did and ive been asked what the BSB and account number are. I said I refused to give out details and would like another question instead. The lady moved on to the next question eventually telling me that the ABN will be kept active. Seemed legit but one can never be too sure.

The address is of the perth yacht club. Was mentioned to be Australian tax office that claims I can not hold a ABN

137226 is not a scam phone number - it is a self-help line for the ATO where you can conduct certain operations wrt to your tax affairs and ABN details. For example I was able to retain my ABN after the (somewhat dodgy looking) email from the ATO warned me I was going to have my ABN cancelled unless I rang this number. I spent 2 hours ringing the ATO and ABR to find out if it was genuine or not. In the end neither could say it was real, and both recommended I delete it. But persisted by calling the number, preparing to hang up if I was asked for details, but it was just a voice prompt service that was genuinely the government. Really bad email though from the ATO made it look dodgy. I was able to retain my ABN by using the menu options (and entering my ABN - which they had anyway).

Received an email advising my ABN will be cancelled unless I phone them, thought it was a scam but have since found out the number is legitimate and is the self-help business number at the ATO.

email saying my abn will be cancelled and need to call them back. Looked up contact details for ABR and their number is 13 92 26 and not 13 72 26… must be a scam getting around.

I received email saying this was the ATO and that my ABN would be cancelled and phone 13 72 26

I received the identical message - assumed a scam but came to check here in case. Thanks for the info from your accountant. Cheers

I received the same ....I typed in the number on google at it comes as it is ATO - self help business

Received the following text message on 21st March 2023 (and my name isn't Roman!) :

Hi ROMAN

We're going to cancel your ABN: 25 845 280 843 as you may not be entitled to hold one. If you're
operating a business and require your ABN, you must phone us on 13 72 26 before
3-Apr-23. Responses received after this date will not be actioned.
