The number is legitimate but it's a sophisticated scam. Do NOT click on the link with the number to call them as your call is diverted to the scammer. Both my husband and I have been receiving similar texts as the other posters. i.e. "We emailed you on x dates about a payment we owe for account ending XYZ. (Sometimes listing an amount due to us.) We haven't received the payment details yet. To get the payment, follow the steps in the email or call us on 1300 362 409 (with it underlined and linked) and quote ABCetc. If you've already taken action, please ignore this message." Be warned this is a scam. They list the correct number for Westpac help line but if you click the link, the call is taken to the scammer!

Caller: Claimed to be westpac Obvious scam.
Claimed to be renumiration team. My phone number isn't attached to that old account from years ago. Didnt ask for my DOB only to repeat a code they sent then asked for bank account to deposit in. Didn't ask if ok to record (another red flag)
I purposely answered with incorrect answer to a security question asking what email os attached and password to online bankong, and they said it all checked out.

Caller: Supposedly St George I received multiple SMS though I have not held a St George account for years. This report is very helpful by explaining how the scam works. It looks genuine and quotes the correct phone number.

Caller: Westpac This number does belong to Westpac, confirmed with my daughter who works for them. It is a genuine call. They confirmed my details etc, I did not have to give them the code sent in my message and emails, as my details matched my old account precisely.

Only reason i got suspicious is coz i hadn't checked my emails for several days & had 3 such emails, but with different amounts. All in such a short time frame? Rarely... BEWARE people, it truly looks legit...

Caller: Westpac on behalf of St George This is written on an ST George email I received, which relates to the parent company, Westpac. They emailed me saying they owed me money, which I was dubious about, but as it turns out, it is a genuine Westpac number.
