They are legit. I was very skeptical at first but then I check the actual ATO website and the firm "probegroup" is listed there as a third party debt collector along with a few other firm.

We received a dodgey letter from probe collectors. I don't care what the above "debt collectors" say if they were employed by ATO to debt recover then why don't they know how to spell my husbands name correctly our mailing address. ATO knows his TFN so should be on letter instead of just blank as is the ATO code... also says can pay at post office but everyone knows these days need post bill pay code and bar code to pay at post offices..and have had these scams before. Accountant can see all outstanding debt at tax time and don't have any.

Yep, they are a debt collectors agency used by the ATO. At first I thought it was a scam, but I've just had a very informative/terrifying conversation with the ATO and it turns out I forgot to lodge a GST form last year and I have a fine. Absolutely horrified.

I actually work for them. They are called Probe Group. Based in Caufield. Balaclava Rd. They are a mercantile agency. They recover ATO debt. So pay your taxes. It is pretty simple. Sometimes the ATO doesn't advise you of outstanding taxation matters.

I think this is a number used by scammers saying they represent the ATO. Beware!
