Have been receiving these calls for the past week about two a day, recorded message (English Accent) saying that I will be arrested due to Tax evasion. They also called from the following number (02) 8277 6528, called the number and told the operator (Indian accent), that I will report them to the police, they hanged up.. Blocked the numbers on my phone, they have also sent an email, but just deleted.

Telephone scam.

The scam calls appear to be going to people who do have tax-debts. The ATO has outsourced debt collection, and some of the scam calls quote balances owing etc. that can only have come from either a tax-agent or ATO information held by debt collectors.It is easy to pinpoint if a tax-agent has been hacked,as only his clients get calls.

If you do get one of these calls ring the ATO on 1 800 008 540 and give them details. It gives them more information to trace where the info is coming from.

Guy with an international accent (part US, Filipino or Indian) left a message on the voicemail saying I had not paid my tax and that the unnamed tax authority was out to get me and that I should get my lawyer to call. They provide a number (02) 6711 1610 as the return number. No name provided, no name of company provided, no reference to what tax authority he's calling from or any identifying features as to who he thinks I am. Absolute scam - these guys should be put in gaol.

We received the same call only my 14 year old brother answered and didn't realize it was a scam, these people are pathetic.

It's scam, block the number and call telstra to disconnect the 02.....

Message left claiming I had not answered a tax avoidance letter and there was a warrant for my arrest. I had to contact (or my lawyer had to) a number which I did not ring,

Received a few calls lately advising me of my severe debt, tax evasion and a warrant our for my arrest. Total scam do not fall for it.

Rang twice within an hour today. Gives number to ring back but says it too quickly. This one has an American accent.

Have also received a call claiming I am about to be arrested if I do not pay my tax bill. gave an 026 prefix to call back but I didn't get the full number. Very cruel telemarketer - there must be people who panic when they hear this!

Yes recorded message from Indian gentleman with English accent. Claiming the ATO outstanding debts etc.

Checked my 87 year old mother message bank and had two of these tax evasion calls with 02..... Number to ring back to prevent legal action. Apparently letter had been sent and returned. Obviously a scam as she has been a pensioner for over 20 years and of no interest to the tax office.

Male caller. Left threatening message about tax evasion, return of a registered communication unsigned and threatening arrest. Gave the folllowing number to call back (02) 8103 2012.

Message about tax evasion and subsequent prosecution. It's just a recorded message which used to be from an indian woman, but is now a man with english accent.

Is that telephone-terror?
