Please don't trust this phone number - it's being used in a sophisticated IT help scam.

A family member contacted Brother via the website listed on a sticker attached to their recently purchased printer (purchased from a national well-known chain store). The person they spoke with requested control of their computer, tried to intimidate them into agreeing, and gave them this phone number to contact to purchase Windows Security as this would supposedly 'fix' the printer issues. They narrowly avoided the scam, refusing the scammer access - I was shocked that a web address literally attached to the printer would link into a scam like this.

The people who phoned my father from this number on 14 Feb 2025 and 15 Feb 2025, and then from a mobile (the mobile person / bot purporting to be "Sam Smith") have persisted and have changed their email address from cybersecuresolns @ gmail.com to support @ ihelp24hrs.org. The mobile they also called him from is 0485 932 052. They took AUD 649.99, installed a remote desktop on his machine and spent over an hour in it "removing trojans". They have notified my father about the change of email today and say they are having trouble with their phone system. Keep an eye on the people around you and help them if they are getting these sorts of calls and emails.

I originally contacted Brother Printers Australia, on a number I got from Google. I allowed the person to fix the problem with the printer which was not connecting to the computer. The job was done along with "other" work. The scammers then sold me 5 yrs of support and anti virus software. Until today, I didn't realise that I had been scammed of $700. It was only when I tried to ring them for support only to find the number disconnected. oh.... you live and learn.... You wouldn't think that it would happen if you were the one initiating the call...

These people scammed my 87yo dad of 649.99 today.. Said they were HP Support. I have no idea what level of infiltration they have achieved; he’s too embarrass let us help. He let them remote into his computer. What a nightmare. These people are scum of the earth preying on old people.
