Pete, maybe you should think twice next time you want to post a whinging rant, given you know nothing about the people making these comments, when they are genarally just telling us who called from a particular number. I am a regular monthly donor to three different charities and donate ad hoc to several others. That doesn't mean that I want or like to be called three times a day for two weeks every couple of months so I can give more money. When I get these calls, I block them for future calls. I'm happy to donate money, but I do it on my terms, without harrassment. This is because I can afford to do it, many people cannot.

Wow! Pete, you need to take your advice fella in regards to reading the word of Jesus. Calling people names is not very Christian.

Pete, You quote the name Jesus yet you have so much venom in your message........People exchange labour for money, we don't have a phone number to allow people to beg money from us, or to buy products from them. If we want to find, goods, jesus or donate to a charity we go to the relevant organisations. When they call unwanted I believe it is a form of harassment once I have told them no on the first communication.

Calls have started from this number and they won't leave a message, my assumption in these cases is always that they are pests and they know it. I find the best way to deal with these people is answer nicely then put the phone down on your desk and ignore them letting them clock up expense. Lots of fun.

best option is to answer the phone and ask them to hold on for a moment then put the phone in a drawer or throw a cloth over it....this will eat a few minutes of their time and if you multiply it by thousands then they will get the message

PETE, I work 2 jobs and my husband works a 50 hour week. We have 3 children of school age. We support many charities and give $$ whenever we can afford to. However we are constantly being asked to give $$ or purchase tickets in competitions on a daily basis, some days we have up to as many as 8 calls from different charities, it is just too much for us to afford, and often places much undue stress on us as we would like to be able to help more but our incomes and family situation does not allow for it. It is not a nice feeling to have to say no when answering calls from charities, so we find that we tend not to answer our phone at all unless caller id shows who it is that is calling and if we happen to be in a financial position to help out we will answer. On a daily basis we receive anywhere from 3 to 8 calls from charities, if I was to give lovingly to every single one of them my family and I would all be living on the street and in need of charity ourselves. It simply isn't possible to be that generous!! It is each individuals right to give if they should so choose. Good on you if you can afford to donate to every single charity that asks for your help, but not everyone is in a position to do so. Don't judge others for their personal circumstances as you don't know them and remember that it is wrong in the eyes of God to judge others!

I tried ringing 1800 178 022 as suggested elsewhere on this page, but they said my name wasn't in their database anyway. And they cannot do a search on my phone number, only my name and address. So did not work for me.

This number is annoying It has rung several times a day for the last week No message is left & whenever I have tried to return the call due to so many calls missed but it is always engaged. If it is an automatic call centre how dare they constantly ring & leave no message - annoying

I have bought tickets from Mater for several years now but they are relentless in asking me to buy more tickets. I have a regular deduction from my account each month which I thought would stop them calling me every week but it didnt. I now buy twice as many tickets (more fool me) as I did before just to get rid of them. A couple of months ago I contacted them and told them I no longer gave permission for them to deduct funds from my account and I was told the payments would be cancelled but they continue to deduct funds. I am going to contact them again and tell them they have been illegally deducting money from my account and see if it stops then. I am happy to buy tickets but at my choosing, not theirs. I have had one instance when I said I didnt want to buy any additional tickets (on top of the ones I get through my automatic payments) and the guy on the phone abused me. I was so angry. I would rather buy tickets from somewhere else if only I can get rid of Mater.

I get at least two calls from this number every day, never rings long enough for me to answer it. Have put number on my blocked list and have sent messages asking them to stop calling but it hasn't helped, they still call and I still get the annoying 'message' tone on my phone, very inconvenient as I am often in meetings at work, but need to leave my phone turned on as I am first contact for any emergencies involving my elderly mother. I make a monthly donation of $30 already, but if they persist in bothering me I will arrange to have it cancelled.

They get on your Message Bank so you will ring back, then they will be begging every time they need your cash. By the way charities pass your name and phone number around.
