Caller: Pretending to be from ATO

Pretended to be from ATO and asked Visa or MasterCard details to refund some tax. When I said, let me check the number with ATO and Victoria Police, they hang up the call.

The caller claimed he was from the ATO. Didn't identify me and told me I was owed a refund for a tax return I filed incorrectly. He then asked me to confirm my credit and debit card details so they could process the refund. When I said I would feel more comfortable calling through to the ATO number to confirm this was correct, he advised me my refund would be cancelled because I wasn't prepared to provide details to him over the phone.

It rang 3 times I answered and they hung up. I called back and an Indian guy picked up he asked for my name, I told him no. Not until I know what company he is working for....then dead silence.

I missed a call from this number. Never had a call from that number before. They did not leave a message.

I got the same call - and when I asked them to send me an email it went quiet

Didn't pick up but number seems to be from the Southport (Gold Coast) region in QLD.

I rang back the number (07) 5641 2297 once but got disconnected
