Caller: From some insurance mob they said They phoned and said I could claim on some insurance if I'd had any loans over the last 10 years, I asked how they got my number and he said its when I ticked a box at the bottom of whatever it was and those T&C's actually say I agree for my number to be given to marketing companies

Caller: Insurance/Mortgage/Finance refund My mom (who is oblivious to scams) received a call that I happened to be nearby to answer for her. The caller did not identify themselves, and instead KNEW MY MOM'S FULL NAME (signs of data breach), and asked if she has any finance, mortgage, credit card debt etc and that she could be entitled to a refund due to a breach of contract by the lender/provider. I asked where is this refund coming from, to which is was answered "Did you read the news recently?" And so on. Immediately I got suspicious and verbally said I wasn't interested and hung up. Beware of these "refund scams" and always ask them to identify their company and look up their number on the net. Then look up both information combined to see if it indeed matches up. Obviously this one had no results about any refunds.
