I bought a cast iron frypan - preseasoned, 26cm diameter as my electric stove only braised my meat and I love well cooked meats. It has served my needs wel and I have looked after it well. I do not wash it with soapy water and only wipe it with a paper towel to remove excess fats. Last night I was using it to cook steak and onions and in the middle of removing the onions and about to place the steak in the pan - there was an almighty bang and upon inspection of the stove and the pan - I had discovered a huge crack in the pan on the running down the side and partially around the base. I am disappointed that this has happened and had to get my old cast iron grill pan to cook the steak.
I would llike to know why this happened as this is the first time I've encountered this problem.
I am disappointed that after paying $21 for this pan, I now have to replace it and I'm a bit hesitant about buying another one - it's a lot to pay on a student wages.
