Debt collectors who buy debt are not the brightest sparks. I have heard that if you answer the call and say they have the wrong number, they will give up. Apparently you should never admit to the debt, they have purchased they debt and now you owe them the money, so deny, deny, deny and say they have the wrong phone number. Gym debts and small debts do not go on your credit rating.
