Remote Access Scam
Posted on April 23, 2025 Caller type: Scam call Location: Australia
Caller: Pretending to be Telstra Be careful! They are very convincing. Pretending to be from Telstra to notify you that your IP settings (internet) have been changed to public, and thet she can change it back [to private]. Guess what she needs to do that??? You guessed it, access to your IP settings. If you have been tricked by this very convincing scam and provided anyone access to your internet settings (or wifi settings, broadband settings, nbn settings) do the following, or get help to do the following: • run scans on your devices asap to check for malware • change passwords for accounts • check your internet settings and change password • check financial and other accounts • report to Scamwatch, Police, Cybercrime detection

Caller: “Visa and Mastercard services” They said a name, said calling from Visa and Mastercard services. Got them to repeat that. They said “are you aware there were two attempts for international transactions?” And as soon as I queries why my bank wasn’t contacting me instead, they mumbled something and hung up.
