I got the story trying to buy my car on Gumtree for a surprise for his dad in NSW.
Working on the Oil Rig in Gippsland. Wanting my bank details etc.
No more messages when I wouldn’t disclose my personal information to him online.
Annoying when trying to sell car legitimately online.

Definitely SCAM! I received contact minutes after listing my vehicle onto Gumtree, then received the following email correspondence:
"BOBBY COOMBES <holyoil11122 @ gmail.com>
Glad to hear back from you, sincerely calling you would have helped a lot but due to the nature of my work we do not have access to the phone at the moment, which is why I only contact you via email. I work with Australia Oil and Gas and we are presently offshore in Gippsland Basin V18-5, Central Deep till MARCH 2022.

I am buying it for my Dad as a birthday gift, I want it to be the perfect gift for him and am making it a surprise package, Does it have any history I should be aware of? And why are you selling it if you don't mind my asking. I'll contact the freighters that will handle the pickup and delivery as i won't be able to come please understand my situation. I will really appreciate if you can email more info

Due to the nature of my work i am a very busy man working all day, we're presently on the sea, i don't have access to my bank account online as am not with my credit card details here but i have my ANZ bank account link up with my PayPal account so I will be paying you through PayPal to your nominated bank account or better still is if you have a PayPal account, Please get back to me with your BSB and account details or PayPal account so i can proceed with the payment and contact the courier agent who will come to pick it up and deliver it in NSW for my Dad. Await your reply"

The same thing happened to my Car Sale ad. Instant text message to my phone.

" Thanks for your email, The reason I am getting the Car is for my son who has worked hard so well to surprise me with his result academically and I want to return the favour by surprising him with this Car which would be a nice gift for him since he is planning to stay alone. Thanks
As regards Car, please where is it located and are there issues I should be worried about and finally what is the asking price?"

its happening to me right now hes suss as f*ck i type in a search of hes name and find this lol now im gonna hack him he will think im sending him a receipt for the payment to hews courier lol i told him not to pay for a courier i will drop it off

Listed a car on Gumtree, received an email from HOLYSON11122 @ gmail.com. Bobby Coombes trying the "at sea on oil rig, buying for my son". His first email he sends is a copy paste, listing his "story".

I had posted my car on gumtree and someone by the name of bobby coombes offered to send me money and a freight company was going to pick it up , I was immediately suspicious and did a google search

This was a text message I received only minutes after posting an add for my vehicle on Gumtree - I googled the email address and found all these complaints - so glad I did. I am so over these scammers - something serious needs to be done to them!!!!

Got a text message saying exactly the same as listed above saying he wanted to buy my car paying by PayPal or bank transfer

Received a text from 'Bobby' regarding a car we had advertised on Gumtree. Clearly a scam.

He's apparently back at it again. Received a text and follow up e-mail. Stopped after I told him I only deal in person and cash only.

Wish I had seen this prior - I also got scammed by this guy. Thanks for posting this so I could see it before I transferred any more money!

The exact same person has contacted me regarding my gumtree ad about my car. Said he has transferred the money but it wont be released until i pay the freight amount! He said he has transferred the freight and car money! Dodgy

Offer of a massage/ facial combo offer for Day Spa. Details were for a business in Tasmania but SMS came from this number.
