I received a call allegedly from Optus offering an unrealistic discount of 40% on my bill. The caller was in a call centre by the background voices heard. They had my name and mobile number, but I've been in dara breaches. They asked me to confirm my acount email as they had allegedly just sent an email that I did not find in my email client. They then asked to check what email my bills were sent to and asked me to do this through opening the Optus app. They then asked me to open the security settings and confirm email log on details. Ah, no, I had already completed a reverse number search with 1 scam report. They also adked for my date of birth, which again I did not provide. I was also already in the Optus app in the background checking if they had any current discount offers and I provided the time and number called from. I was informed by Optus that they do not phone customers direct and Optus asked me to report the incident to scamwatch, which I have done.

I received an unsolicited call allegedly from Optus offering a massive discount of 40% on my bill. That made me suspicious. The caller had my name and my mobile phone number but I've been in data breaches. They said they'd sent me an email with the offer details and had I received it. No email received by me. They then wanted to check my email address allegedly to confirm it was the same email my accounts came through. Sounds legitimate at first, but I was doing a reverse number check in the background. One scam report listed. I was asked to open the Optus app and check the email listed there. I suggested hey should have it on file in front of them. That's when they confirmed my name (creepy!), but asked me to confirm carrier. I gave them the wrong carrier while I'm trying to contact Optus in the background. The caller asked my date of birth. I disconnected the call and messaged zOptus.
