Caller as above. message/text said - "hi this is my new number- I dropped my mobile in the toilet" - Thought it was my daughter' then scammed me out of $8,000. SA Police report lodged

Texted my mother claiming to be me, asking to send money

Got done today, to the tune of $3200K :-( Unfortunately its a very believable scam when you have kids. Currently trying to get through to CBA to stop the pending payment but on an hour long hold Crrr

Yes, I got this sms, I checked with my sons, and neither had lost their phone.
I sent back the message.
"There is never a good time to say this, but I am not your Dad, and you are adopted."

Got done today, big time and to the tune of $7K
As per the above 'Hi, this is my new number - dropped my phone in the toilet, blabla. Built a story from there, getting under my skin to the point of me transferring $7K otherwise they would harm my son!

Account is with the CBA, I have reported this and am currently on hold to the Police

Txt same format as previous people have reported. Rang my daughter's normal number to check and realised it was a scam. The BSB number was an ANZ branch in Milton Victoria.
Two points:
I'm in Sydney. Phoned NSW cops to see if they were interested that I was stringing along a txt scammer live on this mobile number and to act. Couldn't give a rat's arse.
Tried to ring ANZ Bank security. I couldn't get through!
Good luck Australia if this is the standard of our cyber security!

Similar story to above mentions. Number claims to be a dependent and asks for credit card details.

Yes i got the same message this morning claiming to be my daughter, gave them nothing, i then called the ubove number gave the recorded message a whole heap of abuse

Same as above. "Hi Dad, dropped my the in the toilet!" then proceeds to say the phone is the least of my worries and need money.
When I asked which child it was then they started getting sketchy. Totally believable but for most.
All done via text.

Texted claiming to be one of my children, but I don't have any, I played along with them. Said they had dropped their phone in the toilet, and had to pay a bill urgently!! but when I said I had no money, copped a heap of abuse. I knew it was a scam as I had seem it on the news a few weeks ago.

Text message saying "Hi Dad... please save this number for now". This is a well published scam message. Beware!!! Blocked.

Texted me claiming to be my son who lost his phone and needed money to pay an urgent bill to BSB 736-224. Complete scam, but a believable one.
