message from the Number saying hi mum im using a spare phone now because i smashed mine Can you please text me from here. sh*t indian scammers

Received a text message from this number .. 'Hi mum, I've lost my phone and I can't find it anywhere. Can you save this number for now and text me through WhatsApp when you see this please?'
The message was not from any of my children, I'm not clear what the scam here is but there must be a reason this person wants me to contact them through WhatsApp.

I rang my daughter and she answered. I have blocked the number

I personally received a cool from this number and they didn’t end up speaking and ended up hanging up the phone. Later that week my mother received a text message from the Number saying hi mum this is my new number. Can you please text me from here. My mum, not knowing any better started texting there number in response to what could obviously be me. Thankfully, she called me to ask if I was okay and if that was my number and we sort it out so please be wary. they were asking her for money!!
