Got the same number texting me definitely a scam

My kids are 6 and 2 year old.
“Mum/Dad, I have got a new phone and number so you can delete my old one. Send me a message on Whatsapp if you've received this message by the way”

I got same message today ""Hi mum etc"" Was pretty sure it was a scam but checked first with my kids anyway. Needless to say nothing sent by them. Wonder if all these messages are in relation to the Medibank customers getting their data hacked? Im in Medibank and have been getting weird calls as well from unknown numbers, which I just ignore.
